Duane Maktima

 

Duane Maktima (MOCK-tyma) has been one of the top artists on the Native American jewelry scene for many years.  He graduated from Northern Arizona University, College of Creative Arts, Flagstaff.  He has been making fine jewelry for over 40 years.  His work is on display at the Smithsonian Institution Museum of the American Indian.  In 2015 he was Artist in Residence at the Denver Art Museum. His work is collected by discerning enthusiasts worldwide.

He has had many students who have studied with him including the late great Myron Panteah.

He works in silver and gold and one of his signature materials is the use of Rosarita in  red,  orange, and yellow.

Duane is very involved with Native affairs.  His son, Norman is a world champion fly-fisherman and guide.
